Books

The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF)

Outcome 5:Children are Effective Communicators. Focuses on Literacy.

When reading and sharing books with children, they are actively engaging with and sharing the enjoyment of language.

When engaging with a range of texts, allows children opportunity to gain meaning from these texts and begin to understand key literacy and numeracy concepts and processes, such as the sounds of language, letter-sound relationships, concepts of print and the ways texts are structured.

Book Week

Last week was book week. And the theme this year is
Read Around the Universe.

Book Week is the longest running children’s festival in Australia.
They celebrated its 65th year in 2010.

Every year, Book Week, which is run by the Children’s Book Council of Australia, aims to highlight and promote the importance and enjoyment of reading among young Australians.

The importance of reading for pleasure and enjoyment can not be underestimated. Reading improves literacy levels, social skills, personal wellbeing and provides meaningful activity and a sense of purpose. The simple act of doing something for pleasure has so many benefits. Reading helps you escape, utilises your mind, gets your creative juices flowing, helps you learn and discover new things and takes you on wonderful journeys.

Songs for Sunday - Heads, Shoulders Knees & Toes

Here is another one of my favourites to start a group time, gets everyone moving and involved.

I always like to start a group with the same song or movement providing children with consistency.

Super Simple Learning
has some great songs over on you tube

I also found this printable over at
Aussie Childcare Network

Fairy House 2

The children have shown an interest in insects.

Using our fairy house we created a new playscape to encourage imagination and exploration.

Imaginary play provides opportunity for children to develop social, negotiation and turn taking skills as well as encouraging imagination and language development.

As a child what were some of your favourite things to do?

Fairy House

We enjoy setting up areas that look intriguing and stimulate imagination.
It is rewarding to see the reactions of the children when they find a new area or activity that interests them.

This is one we have set up over the last week

Come back to see what else we have created in this area.
What interests your children?
